British Phosphate Commission, Adelaide, 1971. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good Condition/Very Good. Illustrator: Douglas McNaughton-- Photographer. 84 pages, acknowledgements. Endpapers illustrated with map of Indian-Pacific zone. The text is illustrated with black and white and colored photography taken by Douglas McNaughton. Pale tan coloured boards silver writing on the spine. Photographic dustwrapper, showing guano, with white and black writing on front panel and white on spine. This book was published to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the British Phosphate Commission, set up in 1920 to work the phosphate deposits (guano) of Nauru & Ocean Islands in the Pacific Ocean, then in 1948, in Christmas Island (Indian Ocean). Previous owner's neat name stamp a top of half title page, some light rubbing/chipping of the top and bottom edges of the dustwrapper. No other damage. Size: 4to 9¾" - 12" tall.
