About This Item

London: John Hogg & Co, 1877. First British Edition. An important and early De Quincey biography by one of his contemporaries, including portions of his writings, in addition to gathering an extensive collection of correspondence. A stunning set, and scarce in this condition. Green 452. First Impressions. Two octavo volumes (19.5cm); brown cloth, titled in gilt on spines, with decorations and rule stamped in black on front panels and in blind on rear; dark blue-green endpapers; [viii], [1]-398pp, [2]; [vi], [1]-362pp; frontis portrait of De Quincey by James Archer in Vol.I. Terminal pages in Vol.I a bit roughly opened, with a discreet owners name and date to half-title of same; trivial rubbing to corner tips, but an otherwise Fine set.
