About This Item

Grandin Book Co., Orem, Utah, 1994. Limited Edition . Hardcover. Very Good. Orem, UT: Grandin Book Co., 1994. xx, 101 p. Fine limited, numbered edition bound in black-stamped red cloth. Black endpapers and black satin page marker. A few small faint stains on lower front, else fine, never read and barely opened. Numbered 477/500 on front paste-down label. Bullock was an articulate writer and one of Joseph's personal scribes. He later kept the official journal for Brigham Young of the first trek west. Bullocks biographer calls this record of the demise of Nauvoo "unparalleled." The editor summarizes a few of the journal's contents in the introduction: "We see the momentary glory associated with the Nauvoo Temple and the ordinances performed there. We also get one man's perspective of and feelings toward baptisms for the dead, washings and annointings, sealings, adoptions, celestial marriage, second annointings, and the endowment. To be sure, Bullock witnessed some of Mormonism's most monumental doctrinal and ceremonial developments including polygamy. . . . Bullock's entries also illuminate our understanding of the Strangite group and the confusion they created for a church still trying to grasp the idea of Apostolic succession.
