Vintage mystery novel about a Chicago-based detective who ventures out of the city to investigate the mysterious "suicide" of a wealthy man, possibly related to an ancient curse placed on a frieze that he had salvaged from a ruined chateau in France and brought back to America to decorate his mansion. .
