Frontispiece Portrait. 584 pp. Greatly expanded posthumous edition of Chamberlain's overview of Japanese culture and society. Well worn at corners, frayed at top and bottom of spine, cover gilt strong, spine gilt present but weak, front hinge loose but intact, rear hinge broken, but binding quite intact, frontispiece and tissue guard without damage. Ownership signature of Henry Keys, London Daily Express and Sunday Express war correspondent in China and post-war correspondent in Japan, dated "Tokio '45", on title page.
