London: William Innys and Richard Manby, 1733. First Edition. . Hardcover. See Description. 8vo. pp. [4], 544. Original calf boards, neatly re-backed with old spine label preserved. Board corners are restored. Library name stamped on bottom edge of text block; seminary library book plate on inside front cover; ownership stamp and hand printed name (dated 1938) on front end papers and on outer margin of title page; very faint library blind stamp on lower corner of title. Interior pages are generally clean. Peter Brown (1666-1735) Irish divine who became Bishop of Cork and Ross. His "Things divine and supernatural" [published anonymously] is an in-depth reply to criticisms leveled at him by George Berkeley (see Berkeley’s dialogue "Alciphron"). Browne defends his belief that the thoughts of the Divinity can only be known to us through analogy and not as they are in themselves. [ESTC T118954; Halkett & Laing VI, p. 27].
