About This Item

New York: Bantam, 1982. First Hardcover Edition / Book Club Edition. Hardcover. Near fine/near fine. Signed copy of The Thing: by Alan Dean Foster, the first hardcover edition of his science fiction classic.. Octavo, 181pp. Black hardcover, title in blue on spine. No additional printings listed. In the Book Club Edition dust jacket, with light wear to corners and faint shelf wear to panels. Code "4790" listed on rear panel. Signed by the author on the title page. A nice example of the scarce hardcover edition. Alan Dean Foster's novel, The Thing, is based on the John W. Campbell novella Who Goes There from 1938. This movie novelization first appeared in paperback, published by Corgi Press in London in 1982. It was followed by the paperback edition from Bantam in February 1982 and this first hardcover edition in October 1982. The screenplay for the 1981 film of the same name was written by Bill Lancaster and served as a basis for this work. (ISFDB, 3400).
