Salt Lake City: Peregrine Smith Books, 1990. First Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. 1990 First Printing of the First USA Edition. SIGNED by Greg Child on the title page. Original maroon hardcover with gilt lettering cover & spine. The book is in excellent condition with clean covers, tight binding, a few tiny foxing spots on top edge of text block, no foxing on page faces, no previous owner marks or writing on any page (other than Child's signature on title page), no crease marks. The original dust jacket is clean, has one tiny 5mm clean tear (hard to see) lower front, minor rubbing top corners of spine, complete with original printed price on flap corner. Climbs of Shivling, Lobsang Spire, Broad Peak, and rare ascent (2nd) of Gasherbrum IV via first ascent of NW ridge, the route descended by Kurtyka & Schauer after their amazingly bold climb of the West Face. Includes discussion of the fateful events on K2 in 1986. At the time of the deaths high on K2, Child was across from K2 on Gasherbrum IV. His teammates on these trips included Doug Scott, Pete Thexton, Don Whillans, Tim Macartney-Snape, Georges Bettembourg and others. The book has 192 pages, 36 fine color photos, 19 b/w route photos, map.
