The story goes something like this: After one of Geisel's cartoons that appeared in Judge Magazine mentioned FLIT, a common bug spray at the time, Geisel signed on with The Standard Oil Company and produced illustrations from May 31, 1928 through 1941, which in turn helped him gain notoriety and landed him assignments with Life, Liberty, and Vanity Fair.
