Nicholson & Watson, London, 1947. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good Condition/Good. Illustrator: Photogravure. introduction by author. The text is illustrated with eight photogravure plates in colour, 32 photogravure plates in black-and-white, six coloured charts and the occasional map and black-and-white chart. Tan coloured boards with gilt coloured titles to the backstrip. Illustrated dust wrapper, showing behind-the-scenes and a little bit of fun stage of a Theatre, with pink and white coloured titles to the front panel and backstrip. Essays written by J. B. Priestley on post World War II theatre in Britain. Covering most aspects of all for a Theatre production, from the writing of the script to audience participation. Bumping to the lower spine edge and rubbing to the book corners. There is a crease that runs the full length of the front and the cloth of the boards are a little marked. Offset tanning and browning to the endpapers and internal pages have become age toned. There is a break in the front of board, running the full length, the paper of the front paste down has split. Rubbing and chipping to the dust wrapper corners and to the head and to the heel of the spine. Heavy rubbing to the fold over creases and to either side of the spine. A little rubbing to the dust wrapper edges and some rubbing to the dust wrapper panels. Clipping of the dust wrapper, front fold over, lower right-hand corner. This is the first UK edition.
