The text block is clean without marking or notation; laid in is the original bomc review leaflet, "Report by Clifton Fadiman." The dustjacket is marked with a black "X" from cover to cover across the spine and is heavliy worn along all edges; the previous owners Ex libris stamp inside both covers. Now in clear removable cover. The Territorial Imperative describes the evolutionarily determined instinct among humans toward territoriality and the implications of this territoriality in human meta-phenomena such as property ownership and nation building. It was an immediate success and remains a widely influential work of popular science. It extended Ardrey's groundbreaking anthropological work, contributed to the development of the science of ethology, and encouraged an increasing public interest in human origins. This is Ardrey's second book in his Nature of Man Series, the first is African Genesis (1961).; 8vo .
