New York: Pageant Press, Inc. [1967], 1967. First printing. Hardcover. Very near Fine/Very Good+. Slim 8vo. [8], ix-xiv, [3], 86, [5] pp. Grey cloth with black lettering on the spine. Price of $4.00 on front flap of jacket. Illustrated by a few maps and black and white photographs. Not in Enser; Engel 1249. The diary of Edward F. Paikowski, a private with Ambulance Company 125 of the 32nd Division during World War I. Scharmach was Paikowski's niece and graduated from the Marquette University College of Nursing. After working as a nurse in Milwaukee for a few years, Scharmach volunteered for active duty in the Army Nurse Corps and was commissioned a first lieutenant. During the Korean war she was stationed in Germany for three years. Scharmach earned several honors and awards during her nursing career in the Cold War Era. WorldCat shows 7 copies held by institutions, no records in ABPC (as of July 24 2017). A scarce personal account of action by a medic in World War I. Two small tape ghosts on reverse of jacket, traces of rubbing to front panel.
