Hinges are slightly cracked with exposed netting. Clean pages and illustrations with light tanning and mild foxing throughout. More pronounced to free endpapers and pastedowns. Pencil and pen markings to front pastedown and free endpaper. Binding remains firm. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Gilt lettering is darkened. Moderate sunning to spine and edges with crushing to spine ends. Minor splits to spine ends and corners causing cloth to be frayed. Visible wear marks to boards.

Title in midst of bright ornate gilt design at center front, with gilt trim to borders, same embossed design on back without gilt, spine reads Alfred Tennyson's Poems, Illustrated. Two tiny tears and nick at spine top edge, four tiny tears along spine bottom edge, very slight wear to top tips, slight to bottom. 553 pages. Profusely illustrated with tissue-covered engravings, detailed engraving of deserted rural mill at center of title page, quotation beneath, tissue-covered frontispiece of mature Tennyson. Good.

Frontispiece by Gustave Dore of steering the dead maiden along the river's pat and profile of Lord Alfred Tennyson at title page. Pages generally very good, moderate discoloration. Front endpaper removed. String-bind, fine; hinges intact. Illustrated throughout with the imagery of Gustave Doré and others. Near very good complete example. Includes Tennyson's interpretation of the Arthurian legend with English Idylls and other poems including Morte d'Arthur.
