Description:
New York and London: Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, 1976. First edition. Hardcover. G (Binding is a tad aged or faded around edges; dj has average edge wear; pages are generally clean.). Crimson cloth, gilt letters on spine; red white & blue dust jacket, 340 pp., many BW illus. Just in time for the American Bicentennial, we're sure: a terrific book that visits every state capitol building. Approaches the subject thematically, as opposed to alphabetically by state name, making this book a narrative as opposed to an encyclopedia. Still, it includes many BW photographs of the domed and the non-domed. Said to be "the first historical book to include photographs of the capitol buildings of every state." (dj) And the text includes the histories and challenges faced in creating each one, too.
