Albany NY: Temperance Recorder, 1832. Boards. Fair. 9 1/2 x 7 1/2 inches (24 x 19 cm), marble paper boards with cloth spine, some of spine is worn away, darkening along edges and on back, some of the cloth is missing on the back. Front cover is only held on by two threads, pages are wrinkled, and some pages have water stains on bottom corners. Book is warped, front free endpaper has in written in large ink: "For the Sunday School near Mr. Moore's Green County."
Stitch bound collection of the first volume of the "Temperance Recorder." There is an extra issue dated Nov. 6, 1832, which is a record of deaths by cholera in the city of Albany, NY. It includes a listing of 336 people who died from cholera including gender, age, nationality, native white, or coloured. Also included are their drinking habits.
96 pp.
Laid in is a handbill, 4 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches (11.5 x 14 cm), stating that 4,000 of the these bound copies were donated to Sunday Schools in the Valley of the Mississippi. The handbill ends with an offer for teachers and scholars to subscribe to the paper monthly, for four copies for a years at $1, half the subscription price.
As of July, 2023 we can find no copies in the trade or on OCLC.
