About This Item

Lucien Vogel / Conde Nast, Paris, 1920; First Edition; 7 1/2" x 9 3/4". Color pochoir fashion print by Pierre Brissaud of designs for a lady’s organdy dress and coat for a young girl, by Paris fashion designer Jeanne Lanvin, from La Gazette Du Bon Ton, Lucien Vogel’s legendary fashion journal which was known for its uncompromising print quality and choice of artists and illustrators, who formed a veritable Who’s Who of the Art Deco period, with George Barbier, Pierre Brissaud, Andre Marty, Charles Martin, Edouardo Garcia Benito, Erté, Thayaht, Georges Lepape, Pierre Mourgue, and Robert Bonfils listed among them. Likewise, its articles were authored by the leading Parisian writers, academics, and critics of the day, and its opinions highly influential. Vogel signed exclusive contracts to showcase the lines of Paris’s leading couture houses in the pages of his Gazette, and the magazine was regarded by fashion conscious the world over as the epitome of style and good taste. It was printed in limited edition for subscribers only, on heavy handmade paper, and was distinguished by its full-page fashion plates produced using the costly hand-colored pochoir technique. Near Fine, three miniscule closed edge tears (1/16" - 1/8") in the right blank margin, well clear of the image area. Plate #44 from Gazette No. 6, July, 1920. Not a reproduction.
