New York: Grosset & Dunlap, 1929. Hardcover. Good/fair. J. Allen St. John. Good book in fair dust jacket. The dust jacket has heavy wear, with loss at the head and tail of the spine, and other chips at flap folds; and is age toning. Dust jacket is now in a new removable protective cover. The book has red cloth covered boards with black printing on the front and spine; with light wear and bumping. The binding is solid and firm and the pages are clean and unmarked, but with age toning. A prior owner's name is on the front free end paper. Dust jacket and four interior black and white plates on glossy paper are by J. Allen St. John, as follows: frontispiece, and facing pages 136, 264, and 360. This is the 1929 reprinting with 28 ERB titles in the advertisements in the back. Grosset & Dunlap hard cover with dust jacket, 1928 edition but 1929 printing, 428 pages. 12mo (5"" x 7.5"") From the estate of noted science fiction writer and editor Mike Resnick - receipt included. 7th in Tarzan series, preceded by Jungle Tales of Tarzan, and followed by Tarzan the Terrible and many more. It was originally published as two separate stories serialized in different pulp magazines; Tarzan the Untamed (also known as Tarzan and the Huns) in Redbook from March to August, 1919, and Tarzan and the Valley of Luna in All-Story Weekly from March to April 1920. The two stories were combined under the title of the first in the first book edition, published in 1920 by A. C. McClurg. This item dated by reference from Robert R. Zeuchner's Edgar Rice Burroughs bibliography. It is World War I and the Germans have invaded Tarzan's estate in British East Africa, burning it to the ground and killing everyone there, including Jane. Tarzan goes to war against Germany as an English agent.
Synopsis
Tarzan the Untamed is a book written by Edgar Rice Burroughs, the seventh in his series of books about the title character Tarzan. It was originally published as two separate stories serialized in different pulp magazines; "Tarzan the Untamed" in Redbook from March to August, 1919, and "Tarzan and the Valley of Luna" in All-Story Weekly from March to April 1920. The two stories were combined under the title of the first in the first book edition, published in 1920 by A. C. McClurg.
