Later state of the photoplay edition, which appeared in at least nine variants (Heins GL-3b, Lukes GL-8a, jacket variant 6). This edition is scarce in all variants, and the jacket even more so. Near fine in very good jacket. Ink stamp, name and date on front endpaper, jacket corners a bit rubbed, jacket lightly toned. 1949 Hard Cover. 333 pp. Orange cloth, black titles. Frontispiece and three plates from the film starring James Pierce as Tarzan, Frederick Peters as Esteban Miranda, Dorothy Dunbar as Jane, Edna Murphy as Betty Greystoke, and Boris Karloff as Owaza, a tribesman. The tenth in the Tarzan series, originally serialized in Argosy All-Story Weekly in 1922. Betrayed, drugged into oblivion, and captured--thus came Tarzan to be a prisoner in the deepest dungeon of Opar, lost Atlantis city of gold. But even as the flames of treason engulfed La, Queen of Opar, she sacrificed all to rescue him. Followed by Tarzan's fierce golden lion, Jad-bal-ja, they escaped into the deadly Valley.
