Quarto (11 1/4" x 8 1/2"), light greenish pictorial cloth with green lettering on spine and front cover, Introduction by Maurice Horn, archival ylar-protected pictorial dust jacket (clipped) depicting Tarzan running with a dagger in hand followed by gorillas, gray endpapers, 32pp. + Book One: 62pp. + Book Two: 64pp. full-color thick and dynamic pages reproducing two Tarzan comics. Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875-1950) is best known for his creation of Tarzan of the Jungle as well as John Carter, the Mars adventurer. In literary step with authors like Jules Verne, H. G. Wells, and Rider Haggard, Burroughs elevated the pulps where he began into dynamic genres, among them adventure novels, lost worlds, Westerns, science fictions, and planetary romances. Burne Hogarth (born Spinoza Bernard Ginsburg, (1911 - 1996) was an American artist and educator, best known for his work on the Tarzan newspaper comic strip, and his anatomy books for artists. VERY GOOD overall condition: Tight, clean, bright copy with dust jacket having wear to the head & foot of its spine, light soil, and a 3" x 1 1/2" piece missing from its lower front corner. The cover has minimal soiling and wear to extremities. Hinges are solid. (Lukes-2a variant). The dust jacket is Good-VG, with fading to spine, creases, closed tears, and small chips to edges.
