Illustrated dust jacket, unclipped; minor shelfwear to crown and foot on all vols. Corners slightly chipped. Illustrated frontispiece in all vols., with B/W plates from reproductions and illustrations in text. All volumes tight and clean; jackets and plates bright. fine History of the guild of Tallow Chandlers from it's beginnings in the 13th century. The power of the craft guilds in Europe continued through most of the 14th and 15th centuries; the Chandler's Guild in particular maintained an exclusive contract on city lighting through to the 18th century. The author served as Clerk to company beginning in 1928 and was the fourth generation of his family to do so. 1970
