Steel engraving titled 'Duke of Monmouth' with original tissue protection on foxed frontispiece. Early owner's name penned at top of front free endpaper. Text clean. Binding and hinges etc robust. The binding is in half leather with blue marbled boards. The brown leather spine is rubbed and worn, but not cracked, at the extremities. The black leather label at top centre of spine (presumably identifying author and Waverley novels) is missing. The lower label embossed in gilt is intact and reads' 25 Tales of a grandfather'. The leather cover corners are rubbed and a bit bumped but respectable.
