Hardcover with slipcase, published by The Heritage Press, 1944. A collection of Harte's short stories set in California during the 'Gold Rush'. Thirteen short stories, including; The Luck of Roaring Camp, Outcasts of Poker Flat, Poet of Sierra Flat, The Apostle of the Tules. 6-3/4" X 10-1/4", 224 pages. Illustrated by Fletcher Martin, Introduction by Oscar Lewis. Marbled design cover boards, with off-white cloth covered boards, the title imprinted on the spine in dark brown. Cover boards show some dots of edge wear to the top and bottom edges and tips of the corners. Spine panel has some age tanning, so that it is a bit darker than the remainder of the cloth covered spine area. No former ownership marks, no writing on the text pages. Edges of the text block are clean. The outer slipcase box is intact, all corners are intact, there are some dots of edge wear to the open side - with some exposure to the edges and corners on that side. Not a library discard. Attached photos are of the copy we have in our inventory.
