The first edition of this collection of thrilling short stories by American writer Stephen Vincent Benet. The first edition, first printing, identified via the "F&R" monogram to the colophon.In the publisher's original unclipped dust wrapper.Benet was an American poet, short story writer, and novelist who received the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry. He is remembered for the short story 'The Devil and Daniel Webster'.With the bookplate of American bibliophile Frederick Baldwin Adams Jr. to the front pastedown. He was director of the Pierpont Morgan Library in New York City from 1948 to 1969. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with price unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent, with light shelf wear to spine tail. Dust wrapper in excellent condition, with minor chipping to back strip tail, and a small closed tear at the head of the fold of the front joint. Back strip a touch age toned. Light handling marks to rear wrap. Bookplate to front pastedown. Pages clean and bright. Near Fine
