The Tale of Lohengrin, Knight of the Swan After the Drama of Richard Wagner by T. W. Rolleston - 1914

Probably published in 1913 or 1914. Beautiful quarto, bound in full leather. Jam-packed with fantastic Art Nouveau illustrations and decorations by Pogàny: the bookmakers spared no extravagance. The whole book is printed by offset lithography (by Vincent Brooks, Day & Sons, London) in multiple colors on every page. Includes many tipped-in four-color reproductions (by The Dux Engraving Co., Glasgow). Interior is in lovely shape: clean and unmarked. Cover is in poor condition. While gilt stamping to spine and front board remain bright, the leather is disintegrating at the edges and the front hinge is very weak, to the point of also affecting the hinge of the front end-sheets. Back cover is discolored, probably due to moisture. Ribbon bookmark is rotted near the end. Very scarce. Art/Poetry.

Willy Pogany. a lovely bright and attractive copy. still housed in its original slipcase which is worn and marked. the boards are a little worn but the slipcase has mostly protected them. there is a previous owner's neat signature and date (1914) the book is undated but it would appear to be from about 1913.complete with 8 tipped in plates as called for. the binding is excellent. a little very mild foxing.
