Straight, tight and clean with no markings, extensive wear to board corners and edges, boards and spine label darkened. A translation of a classic Japanese romance described by the translator as "by far the greatest novel of the East (which) takes its place as one of the dozen greatest masterpieces of the world." Illustrated with a frontispiece painting of a Military Official in Court Dress. Appended; Preface, List of Most Important Persons, Genealogical Tables, Important Dates in the Life of the Mysterious Author, Roles of the Vestal Virgins Ise and Kamo.
