About This Item

Boulder, CO.: Este Es Press & Colorado Typographic Society, 1971. Classic scholarly text contains an English free verse translation of one of the great masterpieces of the fourteenth century by the renown Persian satirist, Obeyd of Zaakan. The poem reflects the political personalities and events of 14th Century Persia, emphasizing the moral of the strength of will is the best defense against degenerancy, tyranny and exploitation. The author's translation in free English rhythmic prose is somewhat removed form the original Persian context by substituting a Western frame of reference for certain episodes and symbols, in order to make the tale more meaningful. Slight split on front spine hinge, binding tight. Very minimal shelfwear. . Signed by Author. Limited Collector's Edition. Hard Cover. Fine. Illus. by Gilman,John T.. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. .
