About This Item
London: Macmillan, 1976. First edition. Cloth. Near Fine/Very Good. 8.5" by 5.5". None. A neat, first edition of this novel set in Italy by Muriel Spark, in the original, unclipped dust wrapper. First edition, in the publisher's original green cloth binding with the original, unclipped dust wrapper.Written by Muriel Spark, a Scottish novelist, poet and short-story writer known for her satire and wit, with which she presents serious themes. 'The Takeover' is set in Nemi, Italy in the 1970s, following the story of wealthy and glamourous Maggie Radcliffe and her neighbour Hubert Mallindaine, who believes himself to be the descendant of Emperor Caligula and the mythical Diana. At the time of writing, Spark was a permanent resident of Italy, having moved there in the late 1960s. In the publisher's green cloth binding with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent, with light bumping to the head and tail of the spine. The odd small mark to boards. Dust wrapper is very smart, with light sunning, mainly to the spine. Light edge wear to the wrap, with a small tear to the head of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages very bright and clean. Near Fine
