This book is an analysis of the Russian army by Józef Táński (1805-1888) the Polish officer and journalist, who served in the French Foreign Legion and participated in the Crimean War. At the time of the publication of this work he was in France as a refugee of the November Uprising (Cadet Revolution) the armed rebellion in Poland against the Russian Empire in 1830-1831. In his book Táński describes the system and the hierarchy of the Tsarist military forces, its equipments, tactics and the morale of the soldiers and officers. He concludes that there is an urgent need for a European League to stop the Russian invasion and proposes an operation plan against Russia.
