Samuel Foote was a British dramatist and actor active during the eighteenth century. A comic writer and playwright, he lost his leg in a riding accident, and was quick to capitalise on the accident using his humour and wit.Edited by William Cooke.With fourteen illustrations in the original work; bound with an additional twenty. Including a frontispiece in colour.In an unsigned binding.A limited edition, with one hundred and twenty copies produced. This one is unnumbered.From the library of Audrey Pleydell-Bouverie, an English socialite and the illegitimate granddaughter of King Edward VII. She was featured by Cecil Beaton in 'The Book of Beauty'. Amongst her circle were Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, Coco Chanel, Salvador Dali, Winston and Clementine Churchill and Nancy Mitford.A marvellous collection of the wit of Samuel Foote. In a full calf binding. Externally very smart, with just a little rubbing to the boards. Head and tail of the spine are a touch bumped, with some wear to the front joint. Internally, firmly bound.
