This marvelous recording of Shostakovich's Suite from the film music for "New Babylon", the 1929 silent film written and directed by Grigori Kozintsev and Leonid Trauberg, was released on the 70th anniversary of the composer's birth, sadly the year after his death. This performance features the Soloists Ensemble of the Symphony Orchestra of the Moscow Philharmonic, conducted by Gennady Rozhdestvensky, who also provided the Liner Notes (in Russian only).
