About This Item
This is three complete sets of sheet music, and one missing one sheet. All in excellent condition.
Together, they were used in numerous films.
1. Sweet Sue, Just You
This song was written in 1928, by Victor Young & Will J Harris. It was popular at the time then, in 1932, Brunswick Records thought that it would work again with Bing Crosby. It was duly recorded, but the company felt it was a dud and didn't release it. It was finally released in 1968 and has since appeared on a couple of Crosby's compilation albums.
It has also been recorded by Django Reinhardt, Benny Goodman, The Mills Brothers, Fats Waller, Tommy Dorsey and Miles Davis. It was used repeatedly by Lucille Ball & Desi Arnaz, and has appeared in the following films: Boys Town (1938), Second Chorus (1940), Rhythm Parade (1942), The Major & the Minor (1942), Some Like it Hot (1959), They Shoot Horses, Don't They? (1969), All That Jazz (1979), Sweet & Lowdown (1999), Red Betsy (2003) and The Master (2012).
2. Together is a 1928 song with music by Ray Henderson and lyrics by Buddy G. De Sylva and Lew Brown. The most popular 1928 recording of the song, by Paul Whiteman, with Bix Beiderbecke on cornet, was a #1 hit.
The song was revived for the 1944 film, Since You Went Away. It was re-recorded by Dick Haymes and Helen Forrest and lasted 10 weeks on the Billboard chart, peaking at #3. This recording was paired on a single with It Had to Be You, a #4 hit. It again became a Top Ten hit in 1961, when Connie Francis recorded it. Marvin Gaye & Mary Wells used it as the title cut in their 1964 album; Anne Murray did the same in 1976. It has been recorded by many artists, including Count Basie, Big Crosby, Rosemary Clooney, Ray Charles and Dinah Shore; it even plays in the background on the 1968 John Lennon and Yoko Ono album Two Virgins.
Since You Went Away is a 1944 American drama directed by John Cromwell for Selznick International Pictures and distributed by United Artists. It is an epic about the American home front during World War II that was adapted and produced by David O. Selznick from the 1943 novel Since You Went Away: Letters to a Soldier from His Wife by Margaret Buell Wilder.
3. Painting the Clouds With Sunshine
Written by Al Dubin and Joe Burke for the 1929 Warner Brothers Pre-Code musical comedy The Gold Diggers of Broadway, starring Winnie Lightner and Nick Lucas. It was an international smash hit, earning today's equivalent of $75 million.
The cover of this music is suitable for framing, with a little repair work to the bottom right. The music itself is a little frail, with considerable wear, but it's perfectly usable.

That's My Weakness Now was written by Sam H. Stept and Bud Green in 1928. This became their first hit song together, having been made popular by singer Helen Kane that year (her photo is on the cover here). Another recording in 1928 was by Paul Whiteman and his Orchestra, supported by a vocal group including Bing Crosby. Russ Morgan had a hit with it in 1949, reaching the No. 17 spot in the Billboard charts.
It is used as the opening theme in the silent Laurel and Hardy short We Faw Down in 1928 and in the 1929 Laurel and Hardy talkie short The Hoose-Gow.
It is also featured in the 1932 Krazy Kat cartoon Piano Mover and the Betty Boop cartoon Stopping the Show from the same year.
I only have the covers for this one, which means one page of the music (you can get the other sheet online). There's dried tape on the left side, which a restorer, framer, binder or printer can remove. Once it's cleaned up a little, it'll look great in a frame.
Note: I have lots of vintage sheet music listed here, some singly, many in bundles. You're welcome to create your own bundle, or just buy one piece from a grouping.
