About This Item
Faber and Faber / FSG, 1985 2nd US printing softcover. A long custom poem inscription by Seamus Heaney. Ends "Yours in Sour Mash and and good feeling, Seamus Heaney 21 April 1985". I heard him read poetry at Emory University on his last US visit. Heaney was the most memorable of the many poets and authors I have seen talk. Brillant.. 2nd Edition. Soft cover. Very Good.
Synopsis
Sweeney Astray is a version of the Irish poem Buile Shuibhne written by Seamus Heaney and published in 1983. It is based on an earlier translation by J.G. O'Keeffe. Heaney's version was well received in many circles and, much like his later take on Beowulf, has largely become the standard translation on college syllabi.
