Following is paraphrased from the jacket blurb: ''One of the most intriguing aspects of the early-day western cattle industry is the role foreign investors played in capitalizing it. The Swan Land and Cattle Company of Wyoming Territory was developed by Alexander Hamilton Swan, a Wyoming cattleman who persuaded Scots bankers and business to invest in Wyoming cattle and rangeland. For the next sixty years the Wyoming plains brought both fortune and disaster to the owners. The weather was capricious, the market for beef unstable. The Scots soon learned about fencing wars, range feuds, water rights, nesters, and all the other problems attendant upon raising cattle.''
