The text is illustrated with six maps. Dark blue coloured cloth covered boards with gilt coloured titles to the back strip. Photographic dustwrapper (wraparound) with black, yellow and white coloured titles to the front panel and black and yellow coloured titles to the back strip. A review of Scottish history from early invaders – the Romans and the Normans e. g., to intermittent wars and finally a union with their southern neighbour (to the dissatisfaction of both from time to time), the Scots have bought to the world ''... courage and perseverance – the native products of a thin soil and hostile circumstance – a great respect for learning was later added; and that trinity of hardy virtues has enabled Scotland to survive repeated disaster and live to play a significant part in the creation of the world of to-day.'' -- from front fold over panel blurb. Softening of the back strip edges with rubbing of the book corners and bumping to the top book corners. Age toning and some handling marks to the text block edges with aged toning of the pages. Offset tanning to the end pages. Creasing to the dustwrapper edges with rubbing of the panels. There is a 0.5'' tear to the top edge of the rear panel. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
