Author's Edition with Illustrations. Four raised bands, gilt tooling to spine, Contrasting maroon leather title label. Some rubbing to extremities. Bookplate to front pastedown "The book belongs to Mr. J. Barnes, Garrison School, Arbour Hill." Pages clean with many elegant illustrations. Prominent abolitionist Harriet Beecher Stowe's Sunny Memories is a collection of her letters written to family and friends during her tour of Scotland, England, France, Switzerland, Germany, and the Netherlands. Stowe had recently published her renowned Uncle Tom's Cabin (1852). While abroad, Stowe attended anti-slavery meetings and was surprised at the eager reception she received. Sunny Memories is one of three travel memoirs that Stowe would write throughout her lifetime.
