New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1931. First edition. Cloth. Good. 9" by 7". Will James. An exciting first edition of this collection of cowboy stories, written and illustrated by Will James. First publishing of this collection. Decorated with illustrations by the author throughout, many of which are full page. A collection of sixteen stories of young men learning the ropes of cowboy lifestyle, with characters coming-of-age, proving their skill, and even falling in love. Written and illustrated by Will James, a Canadian-American artist and writer of the American West, best known for his 1927 novel Smoky the Cowhorse for which he won the Newbery Medal. In the original full green cloth binding with pictorial paper pasted to the front board. Externally, sound with rubbing and light fraying to the extremities. Fading to the spine and the odd small mark to the boards. Front hinge starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd handling mark. Light age toning to the endpapers. Good
