About This Item

First edition, first issue in the original first-issue dust jacket. Issue points present including title page matching the 1926 on the copyright page; Scribner's seal on the copyright page; bottom of front panel of jacket with "In Our Times", which was corrected in later issues to "In Our Time"; stopped misspelled as "stoppped" at p. 181, line 26; "Book Three" at p. 235 spelled out instead of roman numeral "III"; and down-stairs misspelled as "down-staris" at last line on p. 169. Pages intact without tears, creases, or markings, some light foxing. Unclipped dust jacket with original price present ($2.00), with 2 tape repairs, split at joint of jacket spine visible from reverse, chipping at edges, less than centimeter loss at head and tail, tanned. Hemingway's first novel. When it was published in 1926, The New York Times described it as, "No amount of analysis can convey the quality of The Sun Also Rises. It is a truly gripping story, told in a lean, hard, athletic narrative prose that puts more literary English to shame."

Synopsis

Based on real events and acquaintances of Hemingway, Sun Also Rises is about American and English expats in Pamplona.

This was the one book I never read from EH. I have to say it is an outstanding achievement of the human experience. What a book! Finishing it gives you a feeling of what's real, eternal and why our lives are full of contradictions.

This book is a classic for any shelf. I recommend starting out with this story if you're not familiar with Hemingway's work.
