Synopsis

Summer of the Monkeys is a 1976 children's novel written by Wilson Rawls. The book was published by Doubleday (later released by Yearling Publishing) and was the winner of the William Allen White Children's Book Award. Set in the late 1800's on the prairies of Oklahoma, Summer of the Monkeys follows the story of Jay, a young boy who dreams of getting enough money to buy his dream horse. One summer, Jay finds four chimps on the prairie who have fallen off a circus cart.
