About This Item
Author Lois Lowry (born in 1937 and still alive, by the way!), has written many books for young adults, usually dealing with difficult topics. She is one of the few female authors who has received the Newbery Award, one for The Giver (1990) and one for Number the Stars (1994). This book is a paperback copy of her first book, which is also signed by the author, inscribed "With best wishes, Lois Lowry". It deals with the death of an older sister, something Ms. Lowry was, sadly, well acquainted with.
Synopsis
Lois Lowry has twice won the prestigious Newbery Award, for Number the Stars and The Giver . She lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

About The Periscope Collection
The Periscope Collection is an online store physically located in Nashville, TN. The Collection has grown out of my love of all things book-related, and after 30+ years of home schooling. We specialize in old and rare children's books, especially authors such as Tasha Tudor, Robert Lawson, and Marguerite de Angeli. We also focus on early American history, with a particular interest in the Landmark Biographies, the "Book House" series and "The Book of Life." One of our greatest passions is children's historical fiction, from authors like Wilma Pitchford Hays and William O. Steele (a native Tennessean!) and Lois Lenski, from my home state of Connecticut. And for those of you who have a heart for homeschooling, we have collected many books that Charlotte Mason would have called "Living Books": books that reflect the personality of the writer and, unlike a textbook, are not full of what she referred to as "twaddle". Along with Living Books, we also have a selection of Homeschooling helps, from some of homeschooling's wisest veterans. Come browse our Collection and see what you can discover!
