London: Stanley Paul, 1909. First edition.. Red pictorial cloth, the front cover designed in black, spine designed in black and lettered in gilt. One leaf of ads at the front, 32-page publisher's catalogue at rear dated Autumn, 1909. Cloth split along rear hinge, spine faded, some chips to cloth at edges, generally a very good copy otherwise. Locke: Spectrum of Fantasy pg. 215: "Light science fiction novel in which the crew of a super submarine (capable of speeds up to 40 knots) encounter the Flying Dutchman, release her crew from the spell of several centuries and help to settle them down in South Africa." This book is usually found in the non-pictorial later binding; this pictorial binding is very uncommon.
