About This Item

Boston: Robinson, Greene & Co, 1860. Wraps. Very good. 8vo; 39, [1]pp + [12] advertising; pictorial printed tan wrapper, advertisements to rear; publisher's string binding; wood engraved illustrations; light soiling to wrapper, chipping and small closed tears, one 2" closed tear to bottom front wrapper, cracking of wrapper over spine but holding; very good minus. None held in WorldCat libraries for 1860, and few for other years. Several stories, poems, a dramatic reading or drama titled, "Lunaria, or the Visitor From the Moon", and set in verse. Also, a musical score with words and 12 pages of advertisements plus both inside wrappers. The ongoing feature article, Young Philosopher, by W.T. Adams, discusses hot air balloons and features vignette illustrations of a hot air balloon and Niagara Falls. Advertisements are not limited to the usual of a juvenile periodical, more juvenile books, but include one for melodeons and harmoniums, premiums advertised for submitting names for subscriptions, Congregational church publications, and many for cures and treatments. Among the medical ads is a full page advertisement for Burnett's Cocaine, useful for dandruff, baldness and hair loss.
