About This Item
Australian University Press, publishers, Canberra 1971 hardcover, 5½" x 9", with dust jacket Jacket edges have wear to all edges. Binding sound. VERY GOOD book in GOOD unclipped dust jacket The 1911 revolution was a momentous event in Chinese history. It overthrew the 2,000year-old monarchical system, and tried to establish a democratic republic in its place. The failure of this first attempt to Westernise China, combined with the other frustrations of those who engineered the revolution, contributed in a large measure to China's disenchantment with democracy. This book studies Sung Chiao-jen, a revolutionary leader, idealist & intellectual, who was assassinated, aged 30, in 1913.
