Dustwrapper foxed and sunned, somewhat edgeworn, with old archival tape repair to top edge of upper panel; top edges of covers a little stippled; endpapers and outer leaves somewhat foxed, sporadic foxing elsewhere; regular light browning. Fair to good condition. "Professor Radcliffe-Brown has been called the father of modern social anthropology. ... This book contains a selection of essays and addresses published during the past thirty years, which have been here assembled in a single volume to meet a demand from students and teachers. Although occasional papers in the proper sense of that term, each having been written for a special occasion, they nevertheless provide, together with an important new Introduction, a coherent theory for the sociological study of primitive society, as well as an inspiration for those with a general interest in this field. Each of the essays is perfect in conception and in expression, and they are tied together by a consistency and direction which is rare in modern anthropology." .
