Illustrator: Photographic. foreword by Rene Clair, introduction by author, list of illustrations, appendix, filmography and bibliography. Black-and-white photographic endpapers, showing shooting of the film "Merry Widow". The text is illustrated with numerous black and white / sepia toned photographs from the life and works of Erich Von Stroheim. Brown coloured cloth covered boards with gilt coloured titles to the backstrip. Sepia photographic dustwrapper with yellow and red coloured titles to the front panel and backstrip. The biography one of the most controversial of the Golden Age of Hollywood film directors -- Erich Von Stroheim. Starting out in his native Vienna, he then migrated to America where his films and film making style sat very uncomfortably with the America of the 1930s - 40s. Rubbing and softening of the backstrip edges with rubbing of the book corners. A little fading of the backstrip edges with light tanning of the text block edges and age toning of the pages.
