About This Item
Berkeley: Radical Student Union, Publisher, 1969. Unbound. Good. Single sheet, legal sized, printed on both sides. Poorly reproduced photo on one side. A flier issued to gather support picketers for Standard Oil workers who were on strike. This event occurred on February 3, 1969. After students left, workers were attacked by "goon squads," injuring many workers. The flier seeks to mobilize students, giving background to the strike and the demands of the oil workers. The workers had struck in January of 1969, seeking a 72 cent wage increase, a full hospital plan and other benefits. 3700 workers struck in the Bay Area, with 60000 going on strike nationally. The strike was unsuccessful, and some postmortems (by the left) assert that student activists in essence took over the strike, at least in the Bay Area, which led to some of the workers becoming lax in their efforts. GOOD condition. Horizontal and vertical fold creases present. Some curling and creasing at the corners.
