Novel set in East Harlem in the 1920s, the story of a blind jazz pianist, the grandson of an Italian immigrant who came to NY to find his fortune on the 'streets of gold.' Hunter is also, of course, well known for the mysteries which he writes under the name of Ed McBain. 471 pp plus author's brief note.
