Lindsay & Blakiston, Philadelphia, 1854. First Edition. Condition: Fair. Brown leather covers with raised bands and gilt lettering on spine. Marbling on endpapers and three edges (darkened on top edge). Leather beginning to loosen from boards in spots; also nicks and scuffs on spine and hinges; spine ends and board corners slightly rubbed. Front lower hinge is cracked; front flyleaf is torn from pastedown. Leaves are age-tanned; also some browning and foxing in places throughout text block. Binding, however, is tight. Child's light coloring on one illustration. Owner bookplate on front pastedowns: 'Owen Shoemaker,' owner of the historic bookbinders supplies company J. L Shoemaker & Co. of Philadelphia, established 1880-1954. Also inscription by William Moore to his friend and owner of the book Samuel Brown, dated 1854. 18mo
