Pp. 364, frontispiece portrait, plus 9 illustrations (mostly maps, 3 of which are folding, two printed in red & black), index; edges of boards a trifle rubbed, with faint bruise at foot of spine; dust wrapper, foxed on reverse, slightly soiled, edges rubbed and creased, with a few small splits, the backstrip lightly browned, inked price change at foot of front flap; a little light foxing; Hutchinson of London, London, 1959. First edition. *From the library of Sydney bibliophile David Levine, with his Militaria book label on upper pastedown. Wheatley's war papers, circulated to the Chiefs of Staff, the Joint Planning Staff of the War Cabinet, and the King. 'The fourteen Papers range diversely from Resistance to Invasion, filled with ingenious, unorthodox and extremely practical suggestions for repulsing an invading host, to the penetrating appreciation of what was to face us After the Battle. And so remarkably sound and useful were they that in the result Wheatley became the only civilian ever to be commissioned directly into the Joint Planning Staff' [wrapper blurb].
