Description:
New York: A.L. Burt Company, Publishers, 1910. This reprint of Stevenson's classic tale is distinguished by one of the most evocative covers one could wish for - The horrible Hyde, knife in hand, with the dignified doctor standing behind. Paired with a lesser-reknowned Stevenson tale, "Prince Otto." Both tales date from the same period, 1885-86; Jekyll has certainly remained firmly in the firmament. Tan cloth binding, with the mentioned illustration, printed in black and gray; titling in black on the spine, where the illustration is reproduced. Clean text; 350 pages. Inscription on FFEP. There is no publication date; Quercus assigns it to 1910, which seems about right, and awaits further information. Surface is soiled, and there are a few wrinkles in the binding. Overall a Very Good copy of an uncommon printing. In an archival plastic protector.. Reprint Edition. Decorative Cloth. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Description:
New York: A. L. Burt Company, c1905. Cloth. Good. 8" by 5.5". None. A scarce early twentieth century edition of these two works from this famed Victorian era novelist. A scarce edition of these two works from famed Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson. The first work present is the well known 1885 Gothic novella, centred on Gabriel John Utterson, who investigates strange occurrences between his old friend, Dr Henry Jekyll, and the evil Edward Hyde. This work has been interpreted as belonging to many genres, from the fable or religious allegory to an early example of science fiction, or a classic detective story. The second work is a lesser known Stevenson production, being the 1885 novel originally titles 'Prince Otto: A Romance'. Stevenson referred to this tale as his 'hardest effort', rewriting one of the chapters eight times before giving up and asking his wife for help. Upon learning from his subjects of his ineffectual ability to rule, the titular Prince Otto seeks to better himself and…
