Half leather binding, dark green leather spine and corners with gilt lettering to the spine, with gilt ruled divisions, green grained cloth boards, speckled page edges.Six issues bound in one volume. iv, 802 pages, with a title page and volume index.This volume of The Strand contains ;"To The South Pole, Capatin Scott's Own Story, Told from his Journals" This account of Scott's journey is in 4 episodes published in the four monthly editions from July to October 1913, they are illustrated with photographs by Herbert G. Ponting who was the photographer on the ill fated expedition, the photographs are all, with a few exceptions, published here for the first time, the final instalment is illustrated with photographs taken by Lieutenant Bowers, Dr. Wilson and by members of the search party who found the bodies of the expedition members. Also included is Chapter 6 of "The Poisoned Belt" by Conan Doyle, plus "How it Happened" by Conan Doyle. Also a Sherlock Holmes story in the December issue entitled "The Adventure of The Dying Detective" with illustrations by Walter Paget, and an article by Commander Evans about Captain Oates illustrated with photos. Also writings by E Nesbit,Talbot Mundy, W W Jacobs and Baden Powell. The book overall is very good witth rubbing and scuffs to the leather, some fading to the cloth.The binding is sound and solid with firm inner hinges. Inside some browning to endpapers, otherwise all vey clean throughout, with no foxing and all complete and in good order. The book measures 7 X 9.25 inches.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket.
